VR headset maker Pimax opens innovation lab
VR headset maker Pimax has opened its own innovation center called 314 Labs for VR research and development. The locations are in Elkton, Maryland (USA) and Qingdao, China. Pimax founder Robin Weng sees this as an opportunity to advance VR technologies faster. 314 Labs has its own budget and more autonomy than the main company. The Elkton location focuses on the in-house developed SLAM algorithm for headset, controller and hand tracking. The Qingdao location works on key technologies such as 60G Airlink and interchangeable optical systems. The Pimax headquarters in San Jose and Shanghai remain responsible for operational tasks such as logistics and customer service. Most recently, Pimax presented the Crystal Super and Crystal Light VR headsets.
