CHITUBOX Aims for Even More Convenient Slicing With its Newest Version, Pro V2.0  - 3Dnatives

Oct 31, 2024

Although there are many steps in 3D printing, one of the most critical is, without a doubt, slicing. In this stage, software platforms known as slicers are used to convert the 3D model into a series of thin layers, the very basis of any additive manufacturing process. A generated G-code is then input into the 3D printer and the printing can begin.

What some might not know is that slicers cannot be used for every single 3D printing process. And while slicers designed for fused deposition modeling abound, those designed for resin 3D printing are rarer. CHITUBOX stands out among those as one of the leaders in the field with a knack for ensuring that prints will be high-resolution and capable of intricate details and smooth surfaces.

Now, CHITUBOX has improved upon its slicer. The newest version, CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 has moved out of its beta version and is ready for users. Let’s take a look at what you can expect with this upgrade.

Beyond slicing a model into layers, slicers can have many features that help to make the process more efficient and convenient for users. Some of the most important center around the ability to create support structures. These, while critical for a successful print, can be troublesome. It is for that reason that CHITUBOX has integrated new or improved support features in CHITBUOX Pro V2.0.

The Magic Support function automates support generation by intelligently matching model features with the optimal support structures

In terms of improved features, users will note some in both auto support and manual support. In automated support, one-click matching has been made more efficient and convenient for different features. This is also a factor in the new ‘Magic Support’ feature. Additionally, now uniform automated support distribution for regular models is also possible, allowing for better stress handling and improved print quality.

For manual support, CHITBUOX has improved the manual support direction, making it more accurate and ensuring that saved support types match those manually added. There are also new supports including face support which manually adds support to a face as well as boundary support, which enables the manually added of support to the edge of the face. CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 also boasts improved one-click manual generation of edge and normal supports for quicker editing and removal.

Face support is one of the new support modes in CHITUBOX Pro V2.0

Not only that, but there are also new types of support beyond the new magic support, namely Group Support and Cloud Support. The former allows for faster batch positioning of added supports for quicker editing and removal, a big time saver when working on a model. Meanwhile, the latter allows users to save frequently used support configurations and enables the use of official recommended support profiles. Thus, it helps to contribute to a hassle-free slicing experience.

Of course, support structures are not the only thing that have been improved upon. Other features in CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 also center around improving how the platform is navigated and accessed. This can be seen clearly in the UI and UX of the software.

The new UI in CHITUBOX Pro V2.0

UI, short for user interface, is one of the most important considerations for users as if it is unwieldy and hard to access, the software will be impossible to use no matter how many interesting features it has. Here, CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 has a brand-new theme and a new lighting/detail mode. This is compatible with different scenes and types of models and will make it easier to visualize the changes in design.

Changes have also been made to the UX, user experience, of the software. For example, the ability to support Microsoft DirectX and Apple Metal has been improved, therefore helping to improve model operation through these popular rendering engines for even better smoothness. Additionally, CHITUBOX has announced that there will be better in-software prompt messages.

There have also been changes related to the actual model making. For the dig hole, Boolean operation and add label functions, for example, these have been improved to better ensure the integrity of the model when they are used. Other improved areas include making the undo/redo functions more stable and the efficiency of the slicing has been improved to make it faster. CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 also has more comprehensive shortcut keys and a custom shortcut key mode.

ChituAction is a highlight in CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 for its automation of model preparation with a single click

Another standout feature in the latest Pro version of CHITUBOX is the introduction of ChituAction. This tool streamlines the entire model preparation workflow by allowing users to perform all the essential steps from auto-scaling, orientation, and the automatic addition of supports to slicing the model file with a single click. In addition, ChituAction is fully customizable, featuring an intuitive action frame where users can define and sequence their preferred actions. By simplifying complex processes and enabling personalization, this function not only boosts slicing efficiency but also enhances user-friendliness, making CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 versatile for both professionals seeking speed and beginners looking for ease of use.

Speaking of new functions, CHITUBOX Pro V2.0 has also added solid, honeycomb and mesh filling capabilities in the Advanced Hollow function, supporting a bottom-through mode. It will also be possible to do array-based batch model copy. And a new 3D printing software, .cfgx, has been added.

All these changes together are expected to make the software easier to use for resin 3D printing. From improving on features based on user feedback to integrating new functions for the same reason, CHITUBOX has shown its commitment to continuing to be one of the leaders in this field.
