iPad mini 8 To Feature OLED Panel, But Analyst Does Not Confirm If Apple Will Use Dual-Stack Tandem Technology Like The M4 iPad Pro Models
The 11-inch and 13-inch M4 iPad Pro lineup is the first from Apple to gravitate from mini-LED to OLED, but according to the latest update from a display analyst, there could be another entrant in this product category, starting with the iPad mini 8. The only problem with this revelation is looking at how long it took Apple to launch the iPad mini 7; it could take its sweet time with its immediate successor. Even then, would it sport the exact same panel technology as the more expensive and powerful tablets? Let us discuss below.
On X, YouTuber Luke Miani voiced his thoughts about Apple creating an ‘iPad mini Pro,’ a compact tablet, but sporting powerful internals and offering additional features such as external monitor support and OLED technology with ProMotion. Likely lurking around the micro-blogging platform, Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO and founder Ross Young commented that the next iPad mini, which would chronologically be called the iPad mini 8, will flaunt an upgraded display.
Given Ross Young’s immaculate track report, we have little choice but to place our faith in his predictions, but naturally, we have some unanswered questions. Firstly, when can we expect Apple to introduce the iPad mini 8, and assuming it will sport OLED technology, would it be treated to the same dual-stack tandem variant present on the M4 iPad Pro models? For those who do not know, this technology adds more layers to the overall structure, which helps to increase the brightness by two-fold and its lifespan by four times.
As you would have guessed, it is also expensive to mass produce, which explains why Apple took a while to bring tandem OLED to the M4 iPad Pro models. Ross Young was also surprised at how Apple managed to keep the prices of the latest high-end tablets low, considering that tandem OLED should have made the new iPad Pro lineup 50 percent more expensive. Our guess is that if the iPad mini 8 arrives after a 3-year gap, which is the same amount of time existing between the iPad mini 6’s and iPad mini 7’s inception, then there is a possibility to include tandem OLED on the iPad mini 8 that supports ProMotion.
Taking this long to launch the iPad mini 8 would mean that the display technology would mature to the point where it would not be as expensive for Apple’s suppliers to mass produce as it was previously. Of course, we will see if these hardware changes actually make it to the next compact tablet because the iPad mini 7 just got here, and for its $499 price for the base storage model, the A17 Pro, 8GB RAM, Apple Intelligence upgrades and more, are sufficient reasons for anyone wanting to make this slate their daily driver.
